Tennessee Titans Vs Pittsburgh Steelers
The Titans invade Pittsburgh for a stellar first game to start the NFL season. The Steelers may have won the superbowl last year but they still have vivid memories of the Titan players stomping on the terrible towel after a victory last season.
After the Titans whipped the Steelers 31-14 in Nashville in the penultimate game last season, linebacker Keith Bulluck dropped a towel, then swiped his foot across it. Running back LenDale White stomped on a towel, and defensive end Jevon Kearse used one as he pretended to blow his nose.
The Steelers, who are 5½-point favorites in the now traditional opener hosted by the Super Bowl winners, didn’t lose again after that game. And they haven’t forgotten the Titans’ terrible behavior toward their towels.
Even if Tomlin wants it put far into the rear view mirror.
“What the ‘08 Steelers did is history and it’s no different than the ‘74-’75 Steelers as far as I’m concerned,” Tomlin said. “I’m not going to concern myself with something LenDale White did a year ago.”
You have to believe the Steelers will remember that coming into this game. Truth be told I think this number is right on and is a little inflated due to the public pumping up the number on the Superbowl winner. These defenses were one and two in the NFL last year and there is no reason to believe they won’t be just as strong this year. The offenses are not too far apart either and the NFL has set us up with a good game for the first night of football.
Tennessee is a solid dog, getting the cash in its last seven chances getting 3 1/2 to 10 points. They are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games as an underdog and 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games in September. This has been a good ATS record for the Titans as they are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
The Steelers start up slow as they are Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in September and the underdog thrives in this series at 5-1 ATS in the last 6. I look for that trend to continue as I take the underdog Titans.
