Cincinnati Bearcats @ Rutgers Scarlet Knights
When it comes to tough games to start the season this game is up there with one of the toughest as both teams are top tier teams and it starts conference play. Although it is the first game of the season the winner will have the edge in the Big East conference.
Bearcats take on the Knights on Labor Day!
The Bearcats one the Big east last year and they have Tony Pike back at quarterback to lead a talented offense. In fact this offense should be one of the better ones in the Big East but the problem for this team lies on defense where they have just one returning starter from last year.
The Scarlet Knights have lost some starters too but they have all five starters back on the offensive line and that is the key early in the season and the same reason why Colorado St was able to do so well against Colorado. Rutgers excels in home openers. The Scarlet Knights have covered five of last six lined home openers.
This play comes equipped with a system play as well: Home favorites in the first month of the season, after closing out last season strong with four or more straight wins, playing a team that had a winning record last season, are 28-7 ATS, 80 percent since 2005.
The edge on the offensive line will be too much for the young bearcat defense to take and the Knights will pound away on the road. While Pike can keep this close early through the air the Knights defense will be able to focus on the lopsided offense game plan to get an edge. The big key is special teams and home field advantage and the Knights have the edge in both areas.
