Sunday Best Bets
This is the last day of baseball before the all-star break and the teams are looking forward to some time off or a trip to the All-Star game.
Today I am going to cover all of the games with quick writeups to head into the mid way point of the season.
I am tempted to play the Indians in this game. Many bettors are on the Tigers because Verlander has pitched well against the tribe but I like to take note that in his last three starts he has an ERA of 5.19 and the Tigers are 4-10 in Verlanders last 14 starts vs. Indians.
This is another big chalk to start the day with Beckett looking for his 11th win against the Royals and another game I am going to stay away from. The Royals are not hitting that badly considering and the Red Sox bullpen has looked awful of late and if the Royals can keep it close they may have a shot late. Chen claims he is ready to go today. I’ve been through a lot of stuff, so I’m just glad I’m here and pitching well,” Chen said. “My arm feels great. I don’t know what can happen or what they have in the future, but what I know is three or four months ago, my future in baseball didn’t look very good. I signed with a team on a Minor League contract [and] I pitched my way back to the big leagues, so I can do anything I put my mind to.”
Oakland @ Tampa- PLAY: Oakland +167
Anderson has pitched well enough for me to take a shot at this price. He has had three quality starts and two of those were against the hard hitting Tigers and Red Sox and he pitched well in his last game against the Rays. This is a play on Anderson and a nice outing against the Rays.
This series has been surprisingly low scoring but I would not be surprised if it goes over today. Marc Rzepczynski goes for the Jays and he looked good in his first start against the Rays but I am not ready to play on him yet since the O’s hit .301 at home against lefties.
White Sox @ Twins: BEST BET Twins -120
The Twins have played well at home and are a very nice 10-6 against left handers this year. Buehrle has pitched well this year and is going to the All-star game but you have to wonder what that will do to him in this game. If he is pulled early for any reason the White Sox bullpen is sure to blow this game wide open. Twins are 6-1 in Bakers last 7 starts as a favorite and will win at home before the break. Bruce Dreckman is behind home plate and he loves the home teams. Home team is 11-1 in Dreckmans last 12 games behind home plate vs. Minnesota
Yankees at LA: Angels +127 and under 9
The Yankees are limping against the Angels and have given up double digits this weekend. Lackey’s numbers are just as good as the CC’s right now so the price is nice at home. The under is based on two solid pitchers and Brian Gorman behind the plate. Angels are 21-7 in their last 28 games as a home underdog and under is 12-2-2 in Gormans last 16 games behind home plate.
I looked seriously at the over with the way Nippert has pitched and the way the M’s bullpen has been, but I will pass here with plenty of games on the card already.
Cards @ Cubs Game One: NO PLAY
What a great day for a double header in Wrigley. If anything I like the Cards in this game with the fact that Big Z is 0-2 in his last three starts and Lohse pitches well in day games posting a 3-0 record on the year and an ERA of just 1.67. Zambrano has given up 24 runs in his last three starts against the Cardinals!
The biggest problem for both of these teams has been scoring runs. The Mets are 7-18 in game three of a series and Harang is at a nice price here. Mets are 2-8 in their last 10 games following a win and Reds are 4-0 in Harangs last 4 starts vs. National League East.
After the dismantling by the Bucs yesterday there is no way I can take them today. You have to assume that the Pirates are at a low point and they are shorthanded. I like the und4er with Barrett behind the plate but not in this park.
Dodgers @ Milwaukee: Milwaukee -125
This series is huge for the Brewers and this game would make for a good jolt heading into the break. They send the ace to the hill in Yovani Gallardo to get the job done. It will be a tough game against Kershaw but I like my chances. Brewers are 5-1 in Gallardos last 6 home starts vs. a team with a winning record and get the win in a hard fought game.

Road teams (LA DODGERS)
with an overused bullpen that pitches more than 3.2 innings per game, with a hot starting pitcher- ERA less than 2.00 over his last 3 starts
132-78 over the last 5 seasons.

With so many great games n today it’s hard to even handicap this one, let alone actually watch it.
The two pitchers going today both have one problem in common, control. Medlen has looked better of late but even that is not that great with an ERA of 6.28 in his last three starts he will give up runs. Hammel has an ERA of 7.00 in Colorado and was missing with his fastball last game and that led to some home runs and that should not change anytime soon. Joe West is behind the plate: The over is 8-2 in Wests last 10 games behind home plate vs. Atlanta. The wind is forecasted to be blowing out of the park today so look for some long balls!
Passing on this game but if I was going to play anything it would be the Giants they are playing so well and one of the best surprises of the season so far.
Florida @ Arizona: Arizona +110
For as good as Johnson has been in his last three Davis actually has better numbers. Diamondbacks are 7-1 in their last 8 overall and 6-0 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter.

SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL: St. Louis @ Chicago: CUBS -110
The Cubs look to get the second game of the double header and finish with a surge heading into the break. Wells has been dynamite for the Cubs as they have won his last four starts and he has given up two earned or less in that time. Wainwright has pitched well against the Cubs but the Cardinals have never seen Wells and that will give the home team Cubbies the advantage. Cardinals are 1-4 in their last 5 games as an underdog and the Cubs are 12-4 in their last 16 games as a favorite.
