The Monday night baseball slate is full of great games and it’s highlight by a return to Boston by Nomar and a look at an all-star snub.
Nomar Garciaparra returns to Boston for the first time since 2004 when he was traded and the Red Sox went on to win the World Series. I expect Nomar to be greeted with open arms as he is still well liked in the area. In return I expect plenty of runs in this game as the A’s will be motivated to try and win
one for Nomar. John Smoltz has been hittable in his few starts for the Red Sox and the bullpen has struggled in Boston. The pens ERA is over 6 in its last three outings and the over has cashed in five out of the last six games. Ortiz is starting to hit again for the sox and the A’s start a lefty in Brett Anderson. The Sox hit lefties at .282 at home this year and Anderson has seen the over cash in three of his last four starts. Nomar will have a great night at the plate and don’t be surprised if the A’s win. It will be a high scoring affair in Boston.
The reds go to the city of brotherly love to take on the Phillies and there is a good pitching duel on deck. The Reds send Johnny Cueto to the mound to face Cole Hamels for the Phillies. The buzz on the internet is that Johnny Cueto should have made the all-star game. Cordero was announced as an all-star and if Cueto got the call it would have been the first time that the Reds had multiple All Stars since 2004. Cueto may use that as motivation tonight to get the win. Hamels as struggled in his last three with an ERA over 7. Reds are 9-1 in Cuetos last 10 starts after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game and Phillies are 2-8 in their last 10 games vs. a right-handed starter
